In celebration of the newly completed David Geffen Galleries at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), LACMA & Jeffrey Deitch resurrected Deitch's iconic Art Parade (from the early 2000s in New York) and brought it to Museum Row/Wilshire Blvd right here in Los Angeles! Thoughts on the rise of AI in music?
“I’ve got mixed feelings on it. I have two very strong contrasting feelings. 1. Is Fuck AI, cuz fuck AI, right? Obviously. It’s just horrible. Pick up aguitar. But 2. Is I think there’s an embracing that has to happen. It’s gonna be really scary and it’s gonna seem very disingenuous, and it’s gonna be a really messy period, but I think that technological advancement in music is always having a messy period, and I think that to be a contrarian to it because it’s like ‘too easy’ is kind of a cop out. Like people were afraid of keyboards & synthesizers when they came out. Classically trained piano players were like ‘this is taking away real jobs from actual piano players’, same thing happened with electric guitar. These are things that, there’s still gonna be a human element I think in those things, but also FUCK AI! You know what I’m saying dude? Like fuck that shit! Yeah that’s how I feel. I’m very split right now.”
An LA artist that more people should know?
“I got a couple. There’s my partner who I gotta shoutout AKBK, I think the music is just
awesome. My friend Junior Mesa, that’s the homie I love him man I think he’s dope I think
more people should know his music. My homie Sean Lee he’s got some great shoegazey stuff that I think more people should hear.”
What’s inspiring you musically?
“This Celtic harp. I really like Celtic harp. I think that’s so beautiful. I think re-sampling that is very pretty. You know that song ‘Sleepy Head’? Yeah well I got inspired off that song cuz I was like what is that sample? And then I deep dived, now I have a bunch of Celtic harp vinyl that I think is really cool. It’s like fairy music. It’s kinda cool."

What do you love about LA?
“The people. The people that are such a big representation of the backbone. The people who are like cooking your food are always unseen. There’s all latinos in Sugarfish’s kitchen. They’re feeding us. I’m not just talking about brown people. I’m talking about all people in this city that want to be in this city, and aren’t like bitching about it and working on community. The people.”
How often do you talk to the universe?
“Daily, hourly, secondly.”
What’s something you feel is underrated in this town that shouldn’t be?
“The train! The train. We’re literally outside the train right now. My friend Yzzy here is so creative, I am an amalgamation of my friends, like truly. My friends are underrated.”

“That there’s magic in every corner, and art and culture and beauty, and you have to go about it with love and acceptance and an open mind.”
Any spaces around LA that you’d recommend for checking out local artists?
“Superchief [Gallery] is really cool, Non Plus Ultra is really cool, shoutout to Bob Baker Marionette Theater, like, love that place. Freak Nature Puppets are doing really sick shit.
Um yeah. I have a lot of really talented artist friends, but they’re more like underground. Shoutout to Zorthian Ranch in Altadena.”

Lily:
“People love to shit on Hollywood Boulevard because it’s grimy and gross it’s scary but that’s what makes it cool and it’s always been that way. They should watch the movie ‘Foxes' with Cherie Currie and see that Hollywood Boulevard has always been gritty and gnarly and that’s what makes it cool. And there’s cool shit to see there if you know where to look.”

“Something that people don’t know about this neighborhood is that it’s not the West side.”
Lily:
“It’s not. I consider this neighborhood to be Mid Wilshire.”

“Miracle Mile?”

“Sometimes people say we’re in West Hollywood and I don’t really feel like we are.”

“We’re not in West Hollywood.”

“And Burbank is in The Valley I don’t care what anyone says. Not in a bad way!”

“I mean The Valley fuckin rules.”

What’s something you didn’t start doing until you moved to LA?
“So many things, to be honest with you. I just have to be transparent. Because like I’ve always said, I’ve been in LA for 17 years now, and I’ve toured for a large chunk of that
and all the things. But something I’ve always said about my entire time in LA , is that I actually call LA the land of opportunities. Because there’s so many things that, maybe I personally only thought about, that I found myself doing. There’s so many things I never thought about, that I found myself doing. Los Angeles is just one of those places where anything is possible. As corny as that sounds. Especially when you artistically express yourself, it’s an endless portal. If you are multifaceted it’s a great place to be, because you will find yourself in so many different settings.”

What’s something in LA that more people should be paying attention to?
Ana:
“Honestly I think a lot of the malls. Like the San Fernando Valley has a lot of good malls. Las plazas, you know, just going in and checking out all the shops, the food there, I think it’s cool to go out there on the weekends. Sunset Plaza, Downtown, all of that stuff. There’s little art markets too, there’s so many in LA and there’s so many opportunities for artists to interact and share ideas.”

“The life of an object and how it gets worn, and torn down, and what that story tells.”
